The Importance of Self Care and How to Take a Detox Bath

Mr. Crazy Blonde was out of town last night and I taught an early yoga class.  When I got home, it was too late to go out, but it was too early to go to bed, so I decided to have a light dinner and take a detox bath.  I did this once before about two years ago and remember that I felt really good the next day!  We are headed into a very busy time of the year with the holidays right around the corner and self care is so important.  Too often as women, we take care of everyone else and forget about ourselves.  I know you've heard it before, but if you don't take care of yourself, then you don't have much left for anyone else!

Here is everything you need to know about a detox bath!

I let the water run in the tub while I got everything together for my detox bath.

I used 6 cups of Epsom Salt

1 32 ounce container of Hydrogen Peroxide

5 - 6 drops of DoTerra Serenity (I thought it would help me sleep well) but Lavender Oil would be great too!

Before I got in to the bath, I used a dry brush to detox and exfoliate. Dry brushing increases the circulation to the skin and helps break down unwanted toxins.  It helps shed dead skin cells and encourages cell renewal which results in smoother and brighter skin.  It assists in improving blood circulation and lymphatic drainage and helps to release toxins.  It stimulates nerve endings and helps your skin to absorb nutrients by eliminating clogged pores.  Dry brushing can (and should) be done every day!

Start on dry skin before bathing.  Work in a gentle circular upward motion, then take longer smoother strokes.

Always begin at the ankles in upwards movements toward the heart.  The lymphatic fluid flows through the body toward the heart, so brush in the same direction.  Your back is the only exception.  Brush from the neck down to the lower back.

After you've finished with the ankles, move up the lower legs, thighs, stomach, back and arms.  Be more gentle around the chest.

I soaked in the hottest water I could stand for about 30 minutes while I read my new book (more about that below).

It was extremely relaxing!  When I got out of the tub, I slathered coconut oil on my body and all over my hair, drank a very large glass of water (this is important) and went to bed.

I slept like a baby and when I woke up this morning I felt great!  I know the bath was good for detoxing, but it also felt great to take care of myself in that way!

It's nice to dim the lights and light a candle!

This detox is excellent for any time, but especially effective when you feel a cold coming on.  I'm going to make a detox bath a priority from now on!

I wanted to share a little about a new book that I'm reading!  It's called Reveal, A Sacred Manual for Getting Spiritually Naked by Meggan Watterson.  I'm only about half way through, but I'm loving it!

Dr. Christiane Northrup, author of Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom, says about this book:  "Reveal is one of the most uplifting, honest, exhilarating books I have ever read.  I devoured every page of this beautifully written life-changing work.  It speaks to the Divine embodied soul of every woman and leaves you as refreshed as a spring rain in the desert.

And from the back cover:  "No matter where you rest on the spectrum of spirituality - religious or secular, devout believer or chronic doubter, freelance mystic or borderline agnostic - this story is about the desire to shed what's holding you back.  With passion, humor, poetry, and row honesty, Meggan provides what religion has left out - a way to lift the veils of your own fear and self doubt to reveal your soul and find the Divine within."

I highly recommend this book!

I've been wanting to share this quote by Cara Alwill Leyba, the fabulous blogger behind The Champagne Diet blog.  It's seems fitting here!

There have been times along my blogging journey when I have worried about what people would think of me and Crazy Blonde Life, but I know that ultimately that isn't important!  I'm so happy that I started this blog because it is my passion and if I have inspired or helped just one person along the way, it has definitely been worth it!

I hope everyone is having a great Wednesday!  I really appreciate the support of everyone who reads my blog, THANK YOU SO MUCH!
