Three Casual Outfits + Styling Tips

Happy Wednesday! I believe this is the longest I’ve ever gone without writing a blog post! As some of you probably know, I’ve been in New York City with my two older daughters…we had an amazing trip! We shopped, ate amazing food, shopped, saw a Broadway show, ate more, shopped more and made great memories together. We all decided to make this an annual trip and hopefully soon, my daughter Sarah, who is in Germany will be able to come with us! All I have to say is…look out New York! I will definitely be writing a blog post about where we ate and some of the things we really enjoyed very soon.

Today, I want to show you a few great outfits that I’ve been wearing on repeat. In fact, I wore some of these pieces while we were in New York. Having said that, most of the things I’m wearing are out of stock and will be restocked by mid January, but it made me think about why so I decided to look into the why of so many things being sold out this year. It does seem that many times I want to purchase something or link it for Instagram or this blog, it’s sold out or there are very few sizes available. Keep reading to see what I found out and if you’re still interested, you can read the whole article from Shopify that I referenced.

“How many times have you been disappointed when a brand has items marked “Sold out” or “Notify me when back in stock”?

The majority of retailers around the world have been impacted by supply chain issues resulting from recent consumer behavior. COVID, for instance, caused a rapid shift to online shopping. This increased attention cut both ways. While it drove up online sales, it also created a problem: lack of inventory to meet the near-overnight surge of demand.

Port congestion is the number one cause of inventory shortages at present, but this is further complicated by congestion at manufacturing facilities. Rather than cutting corners and rushing production, many manufacturers are simply notifying customers of delays and backlogs. “~ Shopify

Most of the pieces I’m wearing came from Loft with the exception of shoes and jewelry. As you probably know, I love Loft for it’s stylish and affordable pieces and this season has been no exception. Oh and did I mention that everything is 50% off? Even though some pieces are sold out…I’m sure you can still find a few things that work for you!

In the outfit above, I’m wearing black coated pants, a turtleneck sweater (still available in some sizes) and festive scarf that brightens up any neutral outfit. I wore the scarf in New York with the same sweater and pants and added a camel coat for more warmth. My absolutely FABULOUS boots are by Veronica Beard. Fifteen years ago, I had a similar pair from Tory Burch and wore them to pieces. I still have them and wear them every year around the house. I’m sure I’ll keep these and wear them to pieces as well! These boots are fur lined and as you can see in the picture come up above my ankle making them very warm. They look great with cropped straight leg jeans, leggings and skinny jeans making them very versatile. I’m sure this isn’t their last appearance on the blog.

While we were in New York, we spent the day in SoHo and shopped in the Veronica Beard store! I’m now, officially their biggest fan! I wanted absolutely everything in the store and it was so pretty inside. Veronica Beard is exactly my style!

In these pictures, I’m wearing a pair of faux leather pants, also from Loft. They are sold out, but I’m putting several very similar pairs in the boutique below. I paired them with the cutest leopard top (similar here and here and more in boutique below), and again a pair of clogs from Veronica Beard. I got these clogs last season and have worn them often!

It’s funny how items of clothing look so different on different shapes and sizes. My tall daughter wore these pants while were visiting New York and they looked so different on her. She has hips and a waist and I have neither…she also took the belt off and styled them with a cropped sweater. I still love the pants but they’re more of a trouser for me. I did a slight front tuck with the blouse just to give my body some definition and would do the same if I styled them with a sweater. The front tuck has been a lifesaver for me as far as being able to wear longer pieces. Because of my height, I tend to look lost in some things.

I would also wear booties with these pants if the weather was cold. They are cropped, but I think the length is fine on me and also thought it was fine on Rebecca who is almost 5’8”!

This outfit is simple but will take you anywhere and it’s so easy to recreate! I could have added a belt, but it’s fine without! These coated jeans (similar here) are super skinny and look great with booties. In my opinion, every woman needs a great pair of black suede booties because they complete so many outfits. Once again, I’ve used a slight front tuck to give my look some definition.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post! Be sure to check out the boutique below for similar pieces and as I said above, most of the exact pieces from Loft will be back in stock by mid January. I’ll make a note to remind you all when that happens! Have a fabulous day!
