GINGER TURMERIC LATTE + DO YOU GOOP/

Goop is a weekly lifestyle publication curated by Gwyneth Paltrow.  It offers recipes, travel notes, detoxes, wellness obsessions...and much much more!  If you haven't explored Goop you are definitely missing out!  Gwyneth Paltrow also has two cookbooks that I use constantly.  They are My Father's Daughter and It's All Good with a third cookbook called It's All Easy coming out in April.  The recipes are delicious, easy to make and healthy!

My recipe for Ginger Tumeric Latte came from Goop - this latte is so warming and delicious!  Because Ginger is "one of the very few "superfoods" that are are actually worthy of the term", we should all be trying to incorporate fresh Ginger into our diets.  Here are a few compelling reasons to eat more Ginger.

Ginger has a long history of use in traditional and alternative medicines.  It can be used to help digestion, reduce nausea and help fight the flu and the common cold.

It is effective when it comes to pregnancy related nausea such as morning sickness (I know that doesn't apply to everyone, but it's good to know).

Ginger has been shown to reduce exercise induced muscle soreness.

Studies show ginger is effective at reducing symptoms of osteoarthritis.

Ginger may drastically lower blood sugars because it has powerful anti-diabetic properties.  It may also improve heart disease risk factors.

Ginger speeds up emptying of the stomach, which is beneficial for people with indigestion.

Ginger is effective against menstrual pain when taken at the beginning of the menstrual period.

There is evidence that ginger can lead to significant reductions in LDL cholesterol and blood triglyceride levels.

Ginger contains a substance called 6-gingerol which may have protective effects against cancer, but these studies are ongoing.

Studies suggest that ginger can protect against age-related damage to the brain and it can improve brain function in elderly women.

The active ingredient in Ginger can help fight infections.

More on Tumeric later, but if you're interested in reading about the health benefits of tumeric, this is a great article.  Suffice it to say that this Ginger Turmeric Latte covers all the bases!

1 heaped teaspoon peeled and finely chopped fresh turmeric (if you can't find fresh turmeric, use 1 teaspoon of ground)

1 teaspoon peeled and roughly chopped ginger

1 tablespoon coconut sugar

2 teaspoons coconut oil

pinch sea salt

1 cup almond milk

(I added a drizzed of Raw Buckwheat Honey at the end)

Combine turmeric, ginger, coconut sugar, coconut oil and a pinch of sea salt in a powerful blender.

Heat almond milk in a small saucepan over medium heat until just simmering.

Pour the hot almond milk into the blender and blitz everything until smooth and frothy.
