A Ralph Lauren Christmas

I’m sitting in bed in our hotel in NYC writing this post and when I tell you it’s cold outside, I mean…it’s cold outside! Just the thought of going outside makes me shiver because it’s currently 17 degrees! The good news is that today will be less windy than yesterday but not any warmer. It’s been very difficult to get many pictures of the usual holiday things in New York (the Christmas tree), etc. because of the cold. Yesterday, I set out to walk to Bergdorf Goodman which is right around the corner from our hotel and by the time I got there, I was indescribably cold. I had on a sweater dress, a thick pair of tights, tall boots and a leopard coat, which I thought would be adequately warm but I was wrong. I ended up purchasing a pair of jeans and a cashmere sweater while I was in the store and wore those pieces back to the hotel…I put on the jeans over my tights. I traded out my leopard coat for the vintage mink I brought and that was definitely a warmer outfit, but the wind was brutal.

After I finished with my shopping, I met Baldy back at the hotel and we had a little lunch at a restaurant around the corner and then took a taxi to Veronica Beard on Madison Avenue. Veronica Beard is one of my favorite brands and I love that particular store. I tried on several things and finally decided on this green suede blazer that I’m in love with! It’s a keep forever piece and I absolutely cannot wait to wear it when we get home! It’s a dickey blazer which means I can zip a dickey into it and change the look or just wear it as is…making it really versatile!

After we left Veronica Beard, we quickly popped into The Mark Hotel for a glass of champagne and then headed to Ralph Lauren…it truly is a magical store at Christmas or anytime really! If you’ve never been, when you walk into the door, you immediately see a marble staircase that appears to go straight up to heaven…so many floors of beautiful things. This year, right in front of the staircase, was a miniature barn, complete with a greenery covered chandelier (pictured above) that was breathtaking! Absolutely everything was covered in greenery and I could have bought the whole store! I saw so many things I loved…including a white tuxedo dress, a pair of brown suede cowboy boots (also really love these) and the cutest pajamas with the Ralph Lauren bear. I also got a few outfit styling ideas that you’ll see below.

However…my favorite part of being in the store was getting ideas from the way the home decor was displayed. The top floor is set up like a home and you wander from room to room seeing the most beautifully displayed decor…all decked out for Christmas! I took pictures until my phone died and then took a few on Baldy’s phone. I really had to keep pushing my jaw shut because everything was so gorgeous!

Last night when we got back from dinner and I was thinking about what to post about today, I decided to share my pictures from the store! I feel so inspired by what I saw and cannot wait to get home and implement some of the ideas into our home decor. I thought you all might feel the same way! BTW…the only thing I purchased in the store was a candle which has become a tradition every year! It’s a little bit of Ralph Lauren that I can bring home to remember the trip!

My daughter Sarah recently made me aware of the Ralph Lauren Christmas trend on Instagram and Tiktok and now everywhere I look, I see a Ralph Lauren Christmas…and I’ll say…I’m totally here for it!

Pictured below is the barn right in the front of the store (along with Baldy’s bald head). The picture to the right is the display that’s inside the barn. I love the rustic wood combined with crystal champagne flutes and silver. Candles were piled into the silver punch bowl (less expensive but same look here) surrounded by blankets and furry pillows.

The picture below is an arrangement that’s on the first landing of the marble staircase. I’ll replicate this by using a footed urn I already have and putting greenery, pinecones and berries in florist foam! I may actually put this arrangement on the table on the front porch!

This table is breathtaking…the white roses paired with pinecones is somewhat unexpected but so festive!

Another arrangement! I just ordered some winterberry holly from my florist and it will last all season long. When my parents were alive, they had a winterberry holly in their yard and I could go and cut all I wanted which was so nice because it’s very pricy, but worth it and a little goes a long way!

Band jackets are having a moment and this one stopped me in my tracks! I’ve searched and searched and can’t find the exact jacket pictured, but that’s not the point. When I saw this look, I was inspired to recreate it with an old Rebecca Taylor band jacket (similar here and love this plaid one) that I bought about 20 years ago and still wear every year! I love how simple this look is with a white button up and belted jeans. I would wear a tan or black suede bootie with this outfit! You’ll be seeing this look on me very soon…again, I can’t wait to get home and play around with this look!

I have a vintage blue and white soup turreen with a soup ladle (somewhat similar here) that I think I’ll get out and display with some other blue and white pieces! This is the exact soup tureen pictured…

This room is so cozy and a little “shabby chic”. The pillows are a little rumpled and everything is slightly out of place, but it all works so beautifully together. Once again, I was inspired to recreate this look in my own way because I have very similar candlesticks. I may not do all of this at once because I’m running out of time, but I’ll store all of this away (on Pinterest) and come back to it when I need inspiration!

This picture is part of the same room! Definitely adding some rosemary plants sprinkled around the house asap! Love the silver handled magnifying glass and vintage ink holder!

Another beautiful vignette with greenery and flowers combined with a teapot and cups and saucers on a silver tray. When creating a vignette…gather things in odd numbers to display. When things are displayed on a tray, it counts as one thing but the tray should still have an odd number of things on it if that makes sense. Stacking leather or wooden boxes adds more interest. If you’re looking for more inspiration on Instagram, follow EurotrashAnnie…she creates amazing vignettes!

I’ve put amaryllis bulbs everywhere this year and I’m hoping some of them are blooming or at least getting ready to bloom when we get home! Flowers and coffee table books are things you can never have too many of!

More urns with greenery…and that bust - so fabulous!

We really enjoyed being in the Madison Avenue Ralph Lauren store…as we were leaving, we went back to the third floor to revisit the cowboy boots that I love so much and I struck up a conversation with a girl who was purchasing the same boots. She had on the most gorgeous coat and a great fur hat! I complimented both and she said her hat was from Amazon…I honestly was so shocked because it was a great looking hat! You know that I came back to the hotel and immediately ordered a fur hat from Amazon! I so wish I had it to walk around in today!

I hope you’ve been inspired to add a little Ralph Lauren to your Christmas decor this year! I’m including a boutique below filled with things that I love from Ralph Lauren as well as a few vintage things that I found as well as the green suede blazer and jeans from Veronica Beard!

Thanks so much for reading today! We’re off to The Pierre Hotel to have breakfast…it’s become a tradition!!

~XOXO Suzanne
