An Epic Fall Charcuterie Board

Putting together a charcuterie board is one of my favorite ways to entertain…it’s easy, elegant, and always a showstopper at any fall gathering. This particular board was a labor of love that I made to serve about 50 people! I filled it with an assortment of my favorite cheeses and cured meats, along with grapes, olives, dried fruit, nuts, and crackers and more to balance the flavors and textures.

To create a beautiful base, I lined the basket with parchment paper and tucked in fresh fig leaves from my neighbors fig tree to make it feel seasonal. The result was delicious and, if I do say so myself…a stunning presentation! Keep scrolling for all the details and inspiration to create your own fall board!

Everyone always asks how to get started on a board like this…

Once I’ve lined the basket or layered in fresh herbs or leaves, I begin by placing the cheeses and the bowls. The cheeses are the stars of the show, so I like to use a mix of shapes and sizes - some whole, others cut into slices or cubes to create the most interesting presentation.

After the cheeses are arranged, I add the meats, grapes, and other fruits. I try to keep everything seasonal, so for this fall-inspired board, I included apple slices. The key is to avoid clustering similar items together…instead, tuck the meats around different cheeses to create a sense of balance and visual variety…you don’t want everything clustered together! If you have extras, you can always use it later to fill in open spots.

Next, I fill in with nuts, dried fruits, and assorted crackers. For this display, I also added homemade French bread croutons, which are everyones favorite. Once every bit of the surface is covered and the board (or basket) looks full, inviting, and indulgent, I finish by decorating with more fresh herbs and I fill the bowls with accompaniments like hot pepper jelly, fig spread, olives, and honey.

When you’re working with a board this large, it’s especially important to spread things out so that several people can help themselves at once without crowding around one corner!

Castelvetrano olives are my very favorites and I find that most people like them. I’m also obsessed with the Pecan crackers from Effies…they are addictive and great with cheese! Honey and cheese were made for each other and this little honey pot is the cutest and would make a great hostess gift along with a little jar of honey for the coming holiday season. I order these wine glasses often…they are my favorites and very reasonably priced which is important considering how often we break them!
