The Story of Our Vintage Palm Beach Table
Some would call me impulsive but I like to say I’m spontaneous! Several months ago, while I was perusing the beautiful items in one of my favorite decor shops, Lisa Johnson Company, I spotted a beautiful vintage Palm Beach style table and had to do a double take! To say it was fabulous would have been an understatement! Now…knowing I couldn’t just sneak a large table and eight chairs onto the patio and say…”oh that’s been there for months, I can’t believe you didn’t notice”, I had to devise a plan for purchasing the table.
I spoke to Lisa, the owner of the boutique and got a little more information from her about the table. She said it was very well priced and almost a bargain! Well, I did a little research and she was actually being very honest, so…I called Baldy and told him about the table, emphasizing the part about it being very well priced for what it was. I told him that similar tables and chairs were going for triple the price and described in detail how beautiful it would be on our patio. He finally came around and we purchased the table!
When we bought the table, it was painted white and looked like a very traditional “Palm Beach” table. It had a little rust and needed to be repainted (powder coated), but I didn’t push that right away, knowing it wouldn’t be inexpensive to have that done. It sat outside for a while and I kept talking about how fabulous it would be if it were painted a different color. Now, I’m no dummy and knowing Baldy’s affinity for the color light blue (he’s a fanatic University of North Carolina fan), I told him I thought we should paint the table light blue and finally he agreed with me that we should have the table painted. The piece of glass on top of the table is very thick and very heavy and it took two big guys to move the glass into storage so that the table could be moved.
We could not be more pleased with how our table turned out! It’s absolutely gorgeous and the color is perfect although, a little unexpected! I’m having cushions made for the chairs and they’re not ready yet, and I have a few more ideas for the patio area…I’m looking into a vintage egg chair and fluffing my planters, but we’re getting there. The little setup pictured below was only for photographs…we’ll have our first official meal at this table on Father’s Day!
A little about the powder coating process…
Dipping and powder coating a vintage iron outdoor table involves first thoroughly cleaning and stripping the old paint or rust from the surface. The table is then immersed into a liquid primer or electrocoating bath to ensure comprehensive coverage and adhesion. After drying, the table is coated with a specialized powder coating, which is applied via an electrostatic spray process. The coated table is then cured in an oven at high temperature, causing the powder to melt and form a durable, weather-resistant finish that enhances the vintage look while protecting it from outdoor elements.
The blue color of the table is surprisingly neutral and goes so beautifully with the hydrangeas that surround it in our yard! I’m going to have so much fun using different dishes and flowers to set this table!
The day that I did this little setup, I had just received my monthly order from Dry Farm Wines and had 6 bottles of wonderful rosé, so I decided to include them in the pictures. Dry Farm Wines offers a curated selection of natural, organic, and sustainably produced European wines crafted with minimal intervention to enhance purity and authentic flavor. The wines are all delicious and I look forward to receiving them every month!
I’m sure you know by now that I’m a collector of many things and my dish collection just keeps growing. The white dinner plate pictured is Wedgewood’s Nantucket Basket and the blue floral plates were my moms (these are so pretty). My daughter Rebecca gave me the vintage pink glasses (these are similar) for Christmas one year and the green napkins are from Amazon. The placemats and flatware are from Williams Sonoma. The little blue bowls are vintage and I have no idea where I got them.
After the fact, I wished I had added a few votive candles, but there’s always next time!
Be sure to check out my idea list on Amazon that’s filled with great tabletop items for summer!
You can see just how fabulous the table is… and it really makes a fun statement!
Vintage cast iron outdoor Palm Beach furniture is renowned for its durability and elegance. It originated in the early 20th century and was inspired by European wrought iron designs and tailored to the warm Florida climate. Popularized during the 1920s and 1930s, this style became synonymous with luxury and leisure, especially among affluent residents and resorts in Palm Beach, Florida. Crafted from heavy, rust-resistant cast iron and often featuring intricate scrollwork and ornate details, the furniture was designed to withstand the elements while providing sophisticated outdoor seating. Over the decades, Palm Beach cast iron furniture has become highly collectible, celebrated for its craftsmanship, classic aesthetic, and its embodiment of the glamour and relaxed elegance associated with Florida's high society during the mid-20th century.
Back to the beginning of this story…
When you find a piece that you know you love, it’s never a mistake to figure out a way to get it. I knew when I saw this table that it was perfect and we’ll be using it for years to come. Hopefully, long after we’re gone, our daughters will also enjoy and use this table with their families!

Little Archie is always close by…usually chewing on a stick! I’m not sure what Amos was doing but he was definitely supervising!
I’m including a boutique with some of my favorite outdoor tabletop items below…
I hope you’ve enjoyed this post!
I cannot even believe it’s already Thursday…where does the time go!
Have the best day ever!
