Dress for the Season - Easy, Versatile Fall Outfit Ideas

Fill your closet with fall staples

If you never have anything to wear, it’s probably because you don’t have enough quality staples in your closet…this mean this for every season of the year. Staples pull your wardrobe together and fill in the gaps. In terms of fall fashion, some of the simplest staples you can add to your wardrobe to elevate any look are new neutral tees, jeans, sweaters, and pants.

The best way to make sure you’re fully stocked when it comes to staples is to approach your purchasing with a capsule wardrobe mentality. Meaning that every piece you buy should go with at least three other things you already own. (I’m not the best at this!)

Plan outfits for upcoming events

Stop and think about any plans you may have coming up….Thanksgiving, a wedding or anything that you want to make sure you have just the right outfit for! Be proactive and start thinking about what you might like to wear to those events. Then, plan your outfits ahead of time and hang them together in your closet…including accessories and shoes that complete the look. You can relax and know that getting ready for those events will be a breeze!

While you’re at it…step out of your box just a bit and come up with other outfits that you feel great wearing. Style items you already have in ways you’ve never worn them before and before you know it, your old pieces will feel brand new. I’m including dresses below that are closet essentials as well as a few other pieces for that very special event!

Invest In a Quality Pair of Boots

Boots are worth the investment if you purchase a timeless style! Cheap boots last one season and then they just don’t look great anymore. You don’t necessarily have to break the bank, but purchasing a pair of classic boots that you can reach for year after year is much less expensive than buying new ones every year. When it comes to boots, quality wins over quantity. I’ve been wearing these (pictured below) for going on 4 years now…they are still for sale and I still love them! Lug sole boots might not be your think, but choose a pair that you know you’ll wear and love for years to come!

Put Away Clothes that Don’t Aren’t Seasonal and Dress for the Season

Having too many things hanging in your closet that aren’t necessarily seasonal pieces can make getting dressed extra hard. I sometimes find myself staring at my clothes thinking the perfect outfit might jump out, but it never seems to happen.

When it comes to dressing for fall, choose warm fall colors such as browns, rusts and oranges, deeper tones and neutrals. Definitely put away summery florals and espadrilles until spring so they’re not cluttering your closet and distracting you every day! You will fell as if you have more options if things are streamlined and organized.

Add Accessories to Your Outfits

When getting dressed for fall…accessories can be your best friend! Think about adding a hat and or a belt to make your outfit look put together. Adding accessories to an outfit made up of basic pieces can be very effortless and chic.

And Finally…Seek Inspiration From Others

When you’re stumped on what to wear, inspiration photos are your best friend.

Whenever you see an outfit you like on Pinterest or Instagram, save it to a folder. Then, when you’re going to get dressed and can’t decide on what to wear, pull up the folder and take inspiration from the pictures you’ve saved. Odds are, you’ll have the perfect look in no time!
