On Keeping Your Stuff…
If you love it…keep it because you just never know!
I am a firm believer in buying the best pieces you can afford and keeping them if you love them! I was in New York recently and wore a jacket from Rebecca Taylor that was at least 20 years old. It felt good to wear it in an updated way with wide leg jeans, a pair of Gucci sandals that are much newer, but still several years old, and a white tee. I added pearls and made it a fun, edgy New York look. When I got home, I decided, for some reason after over 20 years, that I was ready to let the jacket go after this last wear. Like most everyone, I have limited space, and because of the nature of what I do, I constantly have new things coming in that I need to make room for. I will say that when it comes to shoes and bags, I tend to hold on to them longer, and they are truly space hogs! My point is…if you love something and it fits, keep it until you are sure you’re ready to let it go. I know this is going against the popular advice that if you haven’t worn a piece in six months to a year, get rid of it. I like to have options that feed my creativity when it comes to putting an outfit together!
Today though, I want to talk about this gorgeous white hat from Eric Javits and this beautiful romantic dress from Juliet Dunn (this one is very similar). Eric Javits reached out and offered to send me a hat, and of course I jumped at the chance because Eric Javits makes the best quality, most amazing hats.
I have a small head... my youngest says I have a pea head and she's probably right... it runs in the family! Thank goodness I have lots of hair that hopefully makes my head look larger, but I'm getting off topic, so back to the hat. I searched the Eric Javits website to find one I thought would fit my head and look good on me, and I found just the hat (also have my eye on this one). It's a traditional fedora made of Squishee straw (patented by Eric Javits), and it's white... even though in the first picture it looks like it has a bit of green running through, that's just the light. It's banded with a grosgrain ribbon with fringe around the edges. This hat is lightweight, packable, made to last and...it offers UPF 50+ sun protection! It will definitely be in my bag when I leave for the beach week after next. I'll wear it everywhere!
To style my hat for these pictures, I pulled out a very fabulous white dress from Juliet Dunn that's several years old. This is a dress that will be in my closet for years to come, and I'm so glad I could bring it out again because I think it's absolutely perfect with the hat! There's no beach close by, so we headed to the park down the street... the sun was beginning to set, the light was beautiful and it was the perfect backdrop for this outfit.
I've linked a few dresses from Juliet Dunn as well as a few other white dresses that you'll love for this summer and summers to come. White dresses will never go out of style so keep scrolling to see my picks! Also, I have a discount code if you order a hat from Eric Javits…use code SUZANNE 10 for 10% off!
And on another note…
If you've been here a while, you know I mostly show you the good stuff... my courtyard, beautiful tables, outfits I love. But this week I wrote something different over on Substack. It's about a hard season I walked through years ago, and what it taught me about getting up and going on. It's one of the most honest things I've ever written. I won’t retell it here, but if you've ever lived through something that changed you, this one is for you. You can read it here…
I hope you’ve enjoyed this post! Let me know…do you keep your clothes and wear them or do you let them go after a season or two? Thanks so much for reading today!
