Holiday House Tour 2023

Welcome to our home for the holidays! I’m a little late getting everything ready this year, but finally feel finished! I don’t know about you, but I tweak things until the last minute so I’m sure I’ll add a few other touches this week as I’m cooking and getting ready for everyone to come home!

In this post, I’m including pictures and also a video…keep scrolling to watch!

Amos is festive in his Christmas sweater and doesn’t seem to mind it! He just looks at me like I’m crazy sometimes when I’m running around trying to do a million things at once but I love that he keeps me company!

This year I did something different for the dining room table! I was inspired by a picture in a magazine and recreated the look. I went to Lowe’s and purchased a round vanity mirror ($60) and placed in in the middle of the table with a variety of different gold Christmas trees and tree toppers. I added votive candles and a little silver bell and I think it’s stunning…especially when the candles are lit because the light reflects off the mirror. The gorgeous pine cones are from a boutique in Richmond called Creme de la Creme and the large glass candle holders are from Lisa Johnson Company. It was a very easy centerpiece and I’m really pleased with how it turned out!

As you can see…it’s really beautiful when the lights are low!

Our tree is the smallest one we’ve ever had. I decided last year that I really like a tall, thin tree and this one is very thin. For some reason, there wasn’t much to choose from at the Christmas Tree lot this year. We go to the same place every year and actually this is the second tree because the first one was even smaller and we put it in the family room (see below)! Every year is different but I think it’s still a really pretty tree and with all of the family being here this year, a little extra room isn’t a bad thing!

Just a little back story on the house…

Construction on our home was started in 1929 and the house was completed in 1933 (with a little break for the “bank holiday”). The man who built it (Mr. Barnwell), also designed it and because he wasn’t an architect, it’s a little quirky, but we love it. It is about 7000 square feet including a finished basement. The rooms are smaller and there are a lot of them.

In the spring of 2024, we are planning a big renovation of our bedroom, bathroom and my closet as well as the kitchen and den.

We’ve lived in this house for 17 years now and as our family has grown, we’ve realized that we need more space to all be together so we are making the kitchen and den one big room! I’m very excited about this…we are still going back and forth with our architect because this is the last time we’ll ever renovate and I want it to be just right! We’ll start upstairs with the bedroom and bathroom renovation and work our way down so this year should be very interesting and exciting!

I’ll be sharing here on Crazy Blonde Life as the construction starts so be sure to stay tuned!

The picture above is our family room and it holds the smaller of the two Christmas trees. We’ve been collecting Christopher Radko ornaments for so many years now and both trees are a mixture of the Radko ornaments and other ornaments that we’ve collected over the years. I never do a themed tree because I love the memories of the ornaments we’ve collected over the years!

We call this room (above and below) our parlor and it’s one of my favorite rooms in the winter. When the holidays are over and things calm down a bit, I spend a lot of time in this room…sitting by the fire and working or reading! I’m truly hoping for some downtime this January!

The light fixture hanging in this room is new from Visual Comfort and I recently recovered the chairs in a fabulous pink and orange fabric!

A cute little nutcracker stands guard at the front door!

The fabulous magnolia wreath hanging on the door is from Weston Farms which is right down the road from us! I’ll be able to use it again next year although it will be dry, but still quite beautiful. The following year, I’ll probably spray paint it gold and use it in another way. Weston Farms also makes the most beautiful garland that I would love to use around the door and on the mantles. Next year, I’ll start a bit earlier! Do I say that every year?

I hope you’ve enjoyed this tour of our home! Thanks so much for reading today!
