Before learning about Joylux, I had no knowledge of the importance of a healthy pelvic floor, so I did a little research and here is what I found…
The pelvic floor is a layer of muscles that extend from the pubic bone to the tailbone. This muscle group holds up the bladder and bowels. Keeping the pelvic floor in shape is essential to prevent uncomfortable issues later in life. The pelvic floor helps to maintain bladder and bowel control, sexual function, and serves as the “home” for the pelvic organs, including the urinary bladder, rectum, and vagina, keeping them in the correct position.
Pelvic floor disorders are fairly common and there are various causes of a weak pelvic floor, including advanced age, being overweight, a congenital effect, heavy lifting, injury in the area, menopause and pregnancy history or recent childbirth. Unfortunately, many women let these issues affect their daily lives for years prior to seeking treatment. A strong pelvic floor helps maintain control of the bladder and the sphincter muscle. If your pelvic floor muscles become weak or damaged, you may experience urinary incontinence or have trouble controlling your bowels. Many worry about coughing or sneezing in public for fear of having an accident, or avoid social situations due to urgency and incontinence. Many forms of pelvic floor issues can be easily treated.
In many cases, the symptoms of a weak pelvic floor show up gradually. You may notice some urine leakage when sneezing or jumping. Eventually, this issue can worsen, leading to more significant problems.
Weak or tight pelvic muscles can also cause pain during intercourse. Plus, constipation may result from a weak pelvic floor, and in severe cases, a bladder, uterus or bowel prolapse can occur.
There are other issues that show up during menopause…Estrogen levels naturally go down and as a result, the walls of the vagina become thin, dry, and sometimes inflamed. In many women, this leads to symptoms of vaginal burning, irritation, pain (especially during sex), bleeding, or discharge.
