A Short Trip to NYC
Last weekend, I took a short trip to New York with my daughter Rebecca. Her childhood best friend lives in Brooklyn and is having her first baby, so Rebecca wanted to go spend time with her before the baby came. I agreed to tag along so that we could have a day together in the city. If any of you followed along on Instagram, you pretty much know what I did because of my Instagram stories! We had the best trip and it was definitely not long enough! As we were leaving, we talked about how there are always so many things to discover and we have a running list of what to do on the next trip!
Rebecca and I arrived in NYC on a Friday afternoon and coincidentally, as luck would have it, my older daughter Lauren was going to be in the city at the same time with her family! It was my grandsonsβ first trip to New York and they had a packed agenda so we only had one dinner together and I went into Central Park to ride the carousel with them while Rebecca was visiting her friend in Brooklyn.
We were both starving when we arrived in the city, and since we stayed in Union Square, we quickly dropped our bags and headed to ABC Kitchen for a late lunch. We tried to order lightly and not eat too much since we had a dinner reservation, but the food is so deliciousβ¦and you know?! We shared an order of roasted carrots, an order of homemade cornbread with honey butter, and some seared tuna (all to die for)!
Dinner the first night was in the West Village at a place called Isodi. Isodi is an Italian Restaurantβ¦ the food was beyond excellent and the portions were huge (best lasagna Iβve ever eaten). Evidently Martha Stewart had eaten there the week before and I figure if Martha went there, it must be something special. I highly recommend going if youβre in the area! We had a great conversation and were among the last to leave!
The next morning, we were up early and headed to Soho to do a little shopping. SoHo wasnβt far from the hotel, so we decided to walk and the weather was perfect for a long stroll! Our first stop was Tory Burchβ¦have you looked lately because she is killing it this season! We wanted everythingβ¦the shoes, the bags and the clothes!
After Tory Burch we popped into & Other Stories and realized how hungry had gotten soβ¦we found THE cutest restaurant ever called Sartianos and ordered avocado toast, French Fries and a glass of wineβ¦and then, we were prepared to do a little more shopping!
As you probably know, Soho is such a great place to shop and people watch and we did our share of both! It can all be so exhausting and around 3 pm, we headed to The Crosby Street Hotel for a little pick-me-up! The Crosby Street Hotel is a DARLING hotel in SoHo and staying there is on my bucket list! Be sure to check out the website to see how cute it is andβ¦letβs talk about people watching!!! We left the hotel and headed back to Tory Burch to purchase the things were thinking about (you donβt want to buy the first thing you see)!
We hurried back to the hotel to change and meet Lauren, Chris and the boys for sushi at Nobu! If you havenβt been and love sushi or Asian food in general, definitely add it to your list! We had a great time at dinner hearing about everything the boys had done and their favorite things so far on the trip!
The next day, Rebecca headed to Brooklyn to visit her friend and I had a little time alone to roam the city! I took a long walk to one of my favorite lunch spots called Fleming which is near the corner of Madison and 62nd. Fleming is in a beautiful area and has delicious food! I had a leisurely lunch (tuna tartar) and a glass of RosΓ© and then walked a little more! You definitely donβt have a problem getting your steps in New York!
I wandered up Madison Avenue and cut over to 5th to pop into Mango which did not disappoint (see below). Mango is near the hotel Lauren was staying in, so I met them at the hotel and we walked to Central Park so the boys could ride the carousel, which was lovely.
As you probably can tell by nowβ¦we had a schedule to keep and I had to hurry back to my room and change into one of my new dresses from Mango to meet Rebecca and her friendβ¦again in the West Village, at a restaurant called King! Now by this time I was hungry and the food was absolutely amazing! King is a tiny restaurant and again, I highly recommend but definitely make an advance reservation at all of the places Iβve mentioned!!
We did not have a bad meal the whole time we were there and in my opinion, the restaurant choices can make or break the trip!
What I Purchased In New York
Monday was our last day and Rebecca and I spent the morning walking around enjoying the last little bit of our trip before heading to the airport! Iβm so glad we were able to spend some time together discovering new places to eat, shop and stay! There is so much to do in New York and I hope youβve gotten some good recommendations from todayβs post! Be sure to check out the travel section of my blog a comprehensive guide to New York!
Thanks so much for reading!
