What I’m Wearing for My Birthday Dinner in NYC

Sometimes you find an outfit and you just know. This is that one for me.

I bought it for my birthday... and I'm taking it to New York next week to wear to dinner on Thursday night.

The top is what got me first (and what I purchased first)... a chartreuse silk jacquard halter with these gorgeous covered buttons and a crossover neckline that feels equal parts old-world and modern. It's tailored through the waist, so it has shape without being fussy, and the color is that perfect mustard-gold that plays beautifully with denim, cream, white, even soft pinks and reds. I'll wear this one all summer long and into fall…who knows, it would also work for the holidays with black…so chic!

The jeans are the showstopper, but I also considered the matching pants (linked below), but decided the jeans were more “me”. Wide-leg, hand-embellished with tiny floral beadwork details scattered down the legs... the kind of pants that don't need a single other thing to make an outfit. I've been saving them for my birthday but will definitely style these fabulous jeans with a simple white tee for another easy and less casual look.

I added the suede top-handle bag from Savette in mustard suede to keep everything in the same warm tonal family, gold platform sandals (that I’ve had for many years) to lengthen the leg under the wide denim, and stacked bracelets because VAHAN goes with everything.

For New York, I'm planning to wear this to La Goulue and I’ll be getting up often to show off my outfit (really!!). I’m anticipating the kind of night that makes me feel exactly my age and exactly right where I’m supposed to be!

Recap of my trip is coming next week.

There's something about finding the outfit before a milestone trip that feels like a small win. This one will travel well, photograph beautifully, and remind me on my birthday that getting older means getting better at choosing exactly what makes me feel like myself. New York, I'll see you next week!

Thanks so much for reading!

~XOXO Suzanne
