Who Says You Can’t Wear Brown and Black Together

I’ve always loved an outfit that feels classic but a little unexpected (elegantly undone), and this one does exactly that. I’m wearing waxed brown wide-leg jeans from Paige paired with a black cashmere polo sweater from L’Agence.

In this look…I’m combining two colors we’ve all been told don’t belong together, but I think they feel completely right! The rich brown denim softens the black and makes the look feel modern instead of harsh, especially when paired with my leopard Jimmy Choo cowboy boots that tie everything together. I’ve also accessorized with a black Celine bag…my favorite Christmas gift from Baldy last year, as well as fabulous jewelry from VAHAN. I’ve linked a fabulous Tory Burch bag option that is very similar and less expensive! I’ve also linked several similar pairs of jeans in the LTK boutique below since this exact pair is sold out.

For years, style β€œrules” warned us never to mix brown and black…but fashion editors and street style stars are proving that pairing these two neutrals is anything but a faux pas. A recent Who What Wear article highlights five chic ways to wear black and brown together this winter, showing that the combo can look elegant and intentional rather than mismatched. The piece emphasizes that once you start blending these tones with confidence, the result feels modern and polished, especially when you mix textures or balance the colors throughout your outfit.

Just a note about Jimmy Choo…

For many years I’ve loved wearing Jimmy Choo shoes because they fit my foot so well and are very comfortable. As far as designer shoes, I would say they are among my favorites. My first pair of Jimmy Choo shoes was a pair of fur lined tall suede boots that Baldy bought for me while we were in London probably at least 20 years ago! It was such a thrill getting those boots and I still have them and have worn them literally to pieces!

I feel that so many other brands have skyrocketed in price while Jimmy Choo has remained somewhat reasonable. I won’t say they’re inexpensive, but they aren’t exorbitantly priced as some of the other designer brands are and the quality is excellent! I purchased these leopard boots while in New York and will wear them for many years to come and, you know…leopard is a neutral so they go with everything and the heel height is perfect!

Style rules are meant to be questioned (and broken), and this outfit is proof that trusting your instincts often leads to the most effortless looks. Mixing brown and black doesn’t have to feel intimidating…when the tones are rich and the pieces feel intentional, the result is timeless, modern, and easy to wear. Whether you’re easing into the combination or fully embracing it, this is a pairing that deserves a second look.

I’m linking some of my favorite brown and black pieces that all mix and match beautifully in the boutique below!
