ONCE UPON A TIME

My daughter Rebecca is a big fan of vintage clothing and has collected some great pieces.  We thought it would be fun to do a blog post picturing some of her favorite outfits!   She has pieces from all over, but the ones pictured here came from House of Strut, a vintage shop in Savannah Georgia that I blogged about not long ago.  These outfits are from the early 1970's and remind me of some of the outfits pictured in Slim Aarons book, Once Upon A Time.  Slim Aarons was an American photographer of socialites from the 1950s until the 1980s.  He made a career out of "photographing attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places".

Below is the picture that inspired me to name this post "Once Upon A Time".  I just wish that we had been able to take the photographs at a fabulous home with a pool like this!

One of the keys to wearing vintage clothing today is to find garments that look like current trends.  Contemporary fashion is a reinterpretation of styles from the past and most of the outfits that Rebecca is wearing are very relevant to what is in style right now.  Another important thing to remember when wearing vintage is to mix vintage and new pieces.  All of the shoes in the pictures are new or purchased within a year or two and her makeup is current.

Rebecca is wearing an orange and yellow print one piece pants suit from somewhere around 1970.  Living in the warm climate in Savannah, she has been able to wear this several times already!

Another one piece pants suit.  This one reminds me of something that would be worn to host a garden party!

Loving these orange pants.  Rumor has it that "once upon a time" these pants belonged to the current mayor of Savannah's wife!

This playful blue two piece ensemble is still very relevant for wearing today!  It would be a perfect outfit for a music festival.
