Summer Pattern Mixing
Can I even tell you how hot it was when I went out with my photographer to take these pictures! She’s such a good sport and always up for anything and she always makes me laugh! When we left the house, the sun was shining and it was hot as H**L…and, of course, I had on a long sleeve top and pants! But, because this outfit is so much fun and so very cute, it didn’t seem to matter!
Baldy and I live in a small town and we are limited as far as where to go to take pictures, but this spot was perfect for this day (love it when that happens). Fountain Place (you can understand the name of the street) is only several blocks from where we live and such a picturesque little street. I know I’ve written about this fountain before but it was a big part of my childhood. Anyway…as we were driving around trying to figure out where to take pictures, this seemed to be the spot! Do you ever get so tired that you’re silly? Well, that’s how I was feeling and that’s how these pictures came to be!
I am in love with the Marin Pant from Spartina 449! These pants (last seen here and another pair here) fit like they were custom made for me and they come in so many different prints and colors…including a white and fabulous denim (also love this wash). I wear my Marins sooo often! They also seem to lend themselves really well to pattern mixing and the colors matched perfectly with this amazing top from Just Darviny! This boho style summer top is so versatile and looks great with white jeans, blue jeans (or Marin pants), and shorts. There is also a matching skirt on the website and the two together make the cutest summer look! Spartina 449 and Just Darviny are two of my very favorite brands and I love that I can wear them together!
I was a wonderful coincidence that my older Valentino pink espadrilles and pink Tory Burch bag matched perfectly and I added lots of Julie Vos Pink Peony jewelry to complete the look, which I think is fabulous! Pattern mixing is visually interesting and adds personality to a look!
Clearly, the silliness took over when I decided to hop onto the side of the fountain in my 4 inch espadrilles and then hop off again! I had to add the progression of pictures as I was jumping…my expressions are hilarious. Some days, you have to entertain yourself to keep going and this was one of those days! It certainly did make us both laugh…and I’m just glad I didn’t fall in!
It almost looks like I’m superimposed onto the background in this picture, and….what the picture does show is how comfortable this outfit is, although jumping off the side of a fountain is probably not what you’re going to be doing if you wear it!!
You can see in the picture above just how well these pants fit! If you don’t own a pair, you should really check them out!
And a close-up…I could have used a fresh pedicure, but there’s only so much time in the day!
And in all seriousness…here are a few thoughts on pattern mixing that may help if you decide to try it out!
When it comes to pattern mixing, the key is to keep it fun and effortless. Start small by pairing two patterns that share a common color to create harmony, like floral and striped prints in the same shades. Don’t be afraid to mix different scales—pair a big, bold print with a smaller one to keep things balanced. Keep the rest of your outfit simple (or not) so the patterns can shine without clashing. And remember, confidence is everything—wear what makes you feel good and have fun experimenting with different combinations!
Remembering this day and writing about it in this post was fun for me…I love what I do and I’m so blessed to be able to do it each day! I’m also so grateful for my talented photographer who won’t let me tag her, but she’s amazing!
How do you feel about pattern mixing…would you wear this outfit? Leave a comment below and let me know!
Have a great day and thanks so much for reading!
