What Exactly Is a HydraFacial?

What exactly is a HydraFacial? For the few remaining people still unfamiliar with the HydraFacial, here's the short explanation. It's a "medical-grade hydradermabrasion device that carries out a patented three-part regimen — cleansing, exfoliating, and then infusing skin with intensive serums" .

Rather than blasting the skin with grit, like traditional microdermabrasion, this gentler approach vacuums out pores while simultaneously pushing in potent actives, which moisturize, brighten, plump, and protect. The machine's hand piece holds patented spiralized treatment tips equipped with "vortex technology" which is like a whirling force. Beyond the standard three steps, there are boosters, which target unique skin concerns, like brown spots or fine lines. HydraFacial doesn’t have a skin type - it’s for everyone and address all skincare needs. Whether you have lines and wrinkles, blemishes and breakouts, brown spots, or uneven skin texture, HydraFacial can improve your entire complexion with just a few treatments!

I went to a local spa here in Burlington called Alamance Esthetics, to have my HydraFacial. Alamance Esthetics is a beautiful spa with a relaxing environment and it was an experience that I thoroughly enjoyed. Karen Lowe, the owner, made sure that everything was perfect and I can’t wait to go back. My particular HydraFacial was boosted with Growth Factor “which is designed to restore skin health, which helps diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The Growth Factors are naturally occurring proteins that regulate cellular growth and plan a key role in maintaining healthy skin structure and function.” The Growth Factor has 3 steps…Cleanse and Peel - Uncovering a new layer of skin with gentle exfoliation and relaxing resurfacing (I fell asleep). Extract and Hydrate - Removes debris from pores with painless suction. It nourishes with intense moisturizers that quench skin. Fuse and Protect - Saturates the skin’s surface with antioxidants and peptides to maximize glow. I could see a definite difference in my skin immediately and when I woke up this morning, it felt smooth and fabulous and my pores looked smaller (who doesn’t want that)!

The first picture is immediately after my facial. My skin was hydrated and felt great!

You can see in the two pictures below how much more hydrated my skin is in the top picture. It was dry and felt extremely thin and wrinkled when I went in. I’m sure that all the medication I’ve been on and the anesthesia from my surgery took it’s toll on my skin and a HydraFacial was just what I needed!

A HydraFacial can take as little as 30 minutes with absolutely no downtime. It’s more than a basic facial, but less than a laser treatment. You can see the results immediately, with improvements in texture and tone and giving your skin a glow. Another option to customize your HydraFacial is LED light therapy immediately following the facial to treat acne or to build collagen and calm the skin.

I read in a magazine article recently that a HydraFacial is performed every 15 seconds…crazy right? This essentially amounts to 2 million treatments given globally last year alone. That's more than the total number of Botox injections administered in the U.S. in 2017. If you haven’t jumped on the HydraFacial craze, what are you waiting for?

If you’re local, give Karen a call and schedule an appointment for your HydraFacial. I promise you won’t be disappointed. You can make an appointment on the website and Karen will customize your facial for your skin type and needs..

Karen is a contributor to Blondie, by Crazy Blonde Life. She will be writing a skincare column in each issue and I’m so thrilled that she’s part of the magazine. To read her article in this issue, download the magazine here!
