Radical Responsibility & Nike Dunks

I truly believe that anything is possible in life but I also know that it won’t just land on your doorstep. It takes work to make your dreams come true, but here’s the catch. Work can be hard and not much fun, but when you’re working from an inspired place, it’s a whole different ball game!

Here is a quote from Light Watkins that ties in perfectly with what I want to say in this post…

“The best thing you can possibly do for your relationship is to work on yourself. The best thing you can possibly do for your kids is to work on yourself. The best thing you can possibly do for your career is to work on yourself.

When you are calm and happy and rested and fulfilled, everything around you will flow with so much more ease and joy. The best possible thing you can do for every area of your life is to get yourself in order first. Work on how you think and feel. Everything else will fall into place.” ~ Light Watkins

Taking responsibility for your life is the only way you’ll ever get what you desire (and there is nothing wrong with desire). You go first, the Universe responds. What do you want?

When I think about my life and where I want to be in 5 years or even in a month, it’s more about the way I want to feel. I want to feel at peace, surrounded by family and friends. I want to have the freedom to travel and live in a way that feels easy and flows. I want to still be in love with my business and the ways I fill my days. I want to be engaged with people of all ages and feel relevant and informed. I want to have a feeling of accomplishment and know that the work I do is valuable to others. I want our home to be a reflection of who we are, where we’ve traveled, our family and our love of life! I am, on a daily basis, working to create all of this very intentionally.

My days start with meditation, and it doesn’t there! I want to be connected to people and things that keep me in the best place emotionally. I listen to podcasts that feed my soul and I have a mentor that helps me to constantly grow and become more self aware. I try to always surround myself with people that I respect and that can continue to inspire me to be better. It is my goal to embody the spiritual principles that I believe in, not to just know them on an intellectual level.

Of course, all of this sounds amazing, but I am human and I have bad days and get triggered by things and fail and have fear because that’s just part of it.

Years ago, when I started doing this work, I was in a place where I needed outside validation to feel valuable. I constantly lived in a place of insecurity and fear.

The work that I’ve done on myself hasn’t changed the fact that at times, I feel insecure and unworthy, but the difference is that deep down, I know it’s not true and I also have tools, such as meditation, journaling and prayer that help to bring me back to a place of calm and focus on what’s important.

This work is something that never ends. Each new day is an opportunity to create, to learn and to grow as a person and…we learn and grow through our humanness. We learn and grow because we fail, because we are afraid, because we feel sad and hurt and uncomfortable.

It’s knowing that we’re a part of something so much bigger than those things that can give us the strength to keep going. When, finally, we realize that we can connect to “something bigger”, God, Universe, Source…that’s when life get’s good. It gets good in spite of the fact that we forget just how powerful we are on a daily basis…in spite of the fact that we get angry and say things we don’t mean, in spite of the fact that we are afraid of failing and in spite of the fact that we let our egos take over.

When you’re able to tap back into the power of the Universe in spite of your ego and your humanness, you have come to a whole different place in life. You realize that you have to love the messy parts as much as you love the parts that feel good.

Have you thought about how you want to feel and are you taking responsibility for making that happen? I think sometimes there is a misconception that when you have a spiritual practice and believe in the goodness of life, you can just sit back and let the good flow. I do believe the good can flow and I’ve seen it in my life, but it’s because I’m doing what it takes to make it happen from an inspired place.

I’m working through the bits of me that still need healing and giving myself grace when I don’t do things exactly right, but that doesn’t stop me fro acting. My life will not magically fall into place.

We all must do the work, but first, take the time to connect with the Universe, through walking in nature, meditating, journaling, and prayer. Your work will feel easier, it will flow more effortlessly and the results you want come much more quickly.

I believe radical responsibility is taking inspired action on purpose, every day to create the life you want to live!

I always have to tell you about the fashion…

I did a little refresh of my basic pieces not long ago and purchased these cute cargo pants. Cargo pants are very on trend right now and I love that these don’t have the huge pockets that aren’t flattering on anyone. They have a slightly relaxed fit and are very comfortable.

I paired the pants with my new Nike Dunk sneakers. I’ve gotten more into sneakers than ever before and I learned about Dunks from my daughter Sarah and my assistant Hannah. Being around these young girls keeps me feeling younger! Anyway…here’s a little bit about the shoes!

“This Dunk is inspired by sisterhood. From the colors (red nods to the origins of women’s basketball) to the pendent honoring woman in sports, the ‘80 icon returns with classic details and a throwback hoops flare.” These shoes are padded and have a low cut collar and…are so very comfortable.

I also added a long sleeve crewneck tee from Michael Stars (my favorite), plenty of gold jewelry to add a touch of femininity and an oversized denim jacket! This is a great everyday look that I’ll be wearing often!

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this post! I’ve been loving your comments lately, so please keep them coming! Happy Thursday!
