Our Christmas Eve Pajama Tradition

Our family has one Christmas Eve tradition that marks the beginning of the magic. Every year, after dinner on Christmas Eve, I hand my daughters a special box to open…their Christmas pajamas for the next morning. It’s a simple tradition, but one that’s been part of our holidays for as long as I can remember.

Of course, like all good traditions, ours comes with a few laughs. Every now and then, I accidentally hand someone the wrong gift entirely…not pajamas at all! There’s always a moment of confusion, then laughter as I dig under the tree to find the right box. By that point, someone’s already opened one of their Christmas morning gifts, but we just laugh and carry on. It’s one of those perfectly imperfect moments that makes the holiday feel so real! Honestly, it’s hard to keep up with all of it!

This year, I’m thinking of including Baldy and all the grandchildren and giving Christmas pajamas to everyone! I think it would be so much fun for everyone to have matching (or at least coordinating) pajamas! I can see it now…wrapping paper flying everywhere and laughter filling the room. It’s always a little chaotic when we’re all together!

If you love the idea of starting your own Christmas Eve pajama tradition (or adding to one you already have), I’ve linked some of my favorite Christmas pajamas below. Whether you go for classic plaid, soft flannel, or something fun and whimsical, there’s nothing quite like waking up on Christmas morning with everyone dressed in matching cheer.

And to go along with the pajamas…you’ll love this recipe for Cream Cheese Christmas Tree Bread and a few more Christmas Morning Recipes!

No matter how the gifts get mixed up or how much wrapping paper ends up scattered across the floor, it’s these little moments...the laughter, the coziness, the matching pajamas, that make Christmas morning so special. Traditions like this remind me that the best memories aren’t always the big ones, but the small, familiar ones we share year after year. So whether you’re starting your own Christmas Eve pajama tradition or continuing one that you started years ago, I hope it fills your home with joy, warmth and laughter!

Thanks so much for reading today!
