Jason Brown at the Taste of Alamance Lunch

Yesterday Britt and I hauled 7 very large pans of macaroni and cheese to the Taste Of Alamance Lunch.  The lunch was a fundraiser for the United Way of Alamance County.  The featured speaker was Jason Brown.  Jason Brown is a former NFL football player turned farmer.  His farm is named First Fruits Farm and he donates his first crop of sweet potatoes every year to local food banks.  He became a farmer because that was what he says God had planned for his life.  He wanted to become a good husband and father and to be an example to his children by helping people.  He spoke about the importance of knowing where our food comes from, of growing crops that feed people (he grows sweet potatoes among other crops) and the importance of spreading love!  His talk was so inspirational.

Jason spoke at the Taste of Alamance and by doing so, helped raise money for the United Way.  The United Way in Alamance County "helps to break cycles of poverty by focusing on health, education and financial stability.  They make an impact by bringing people and organizations together around innovative solutions."  The United Way strives to create community, because we are always "stronger together"!  I hope that you'll support this wonderful agency and it's events!

We arrived in the pouring rain, and left inspired, still in the pouring rain!

Heidi Norwick (on the left), the president of the United Way in Alamance County, is the person that made this whole lunch happen, although she had lots of help!

Volunteers served the food that was brought in by local caterers and restaurants.

Suffice it to say that I'm a little tired of mac and cheese, however, I could eat these collard greens made by Michelle's Kitchen every day...they are the best!

The dessert was delicious sweet potato pie made by Reverence Farms Cafe.

Jason Brown gave such an inspirational talk!  I left feeling that I wanted to do more to help people in our county by supporting the United Way and volunteering.

Jason with his wife with four of their six adorable children!

I was detrmined that Britt and I would have our picture made with Jason!  He was very gracious to stop and have a picture with us (not that I gave him too much of a choice)!.

I am grateful to have been a part of such a wonderful event!
