Summer Tablescape - Crisp Green

As I was putting this post together, I tried to think back and remember where my love for dishes and beautiful tables actually came from! My mom set the table every night and we always sat down and ate as a family and on special occasions like birthdays and holidays, she did put extra effort into the table and made things look as pretty as possible. I guess that’s where it all started…even though she didn’t use the “find china” often, she did display it and loved to bring it out when the occasion called for it.

But then along came Martha Stewart! I remember being about 20 years old and getting Martha’s Entertaining book…it was life changing for me! I poured over that book and literally read it from cover to cover, making many of the recipes and dreaming of being at a beautiful party like the ones pictured in the book. Because of that book, I really became interested in food and later started my own catering business. I learned as I went and copied everything I possibly could that Martha did. I made hundreds of her orange muffins with orange marmalade and smoked turkey for wedding receptions that I catered as well as many other of her recipes. At the time, I had never had an avocado or guacamole and when I made my first batch of guacamole and was in love! I wanted to try new things and I wanted everything to look beautiful!

Fast forward to today and I’m still experimenting with new recipes and obsessed with setting a beautiful table! I’m also still learning as I go! I have quite a few more dishes to play with now than I did back in the day and it definitely makes setting the table easier…I think the more layered the table, the more interesting it is. I am without a doubt, a maximalist!

I am so grateful for the people (thanks mom and Martha) who influenced me and inspired my passion for food, and beautiful table settings!

Today, I’m sharing a summer table setting that I think came together beautifully and the inspiration was a tablecloth and napkins from one of my favorite brands…Just Darviny!

Our vintage blue Palm Beach table. is surprisingly. neutral…more so than I thought it would be. I was a little worried that it would clash with the green and pinky burgundy in the tablecloth, but it really blended beautifully.

I have been stalking antique and consignment shops for years and have quite a collection of everything! I pulled from my collection for many of the items on the table. The only thing I purchased was a set of green wine glasses from Amazon - you can really never have too many wine glasses and we break them like it’s our job around here!

The lucite napkin rings were a wedding gift that Baldy and I received when we got married. I have used and loved them for 30 years! The mother-of-pear handled flatware was found at a local consignment store. I also bought a set of fish knives that day and haven’t used them yet but they are so pretty! That’ll be for another post…

Every month, I receive a selection of Rosé from Dry Farm Wines. The wine from Dry Farm is all from Europe and grown in vineyards without irrigation…making them very sustainable. These wines are natural, organic and/or biodynamic and always delicious! I look forward to trying the new selections each month!

When I purchased the set of mother-of-pearl flatware, there were no spoons, only salad forks, dinner forks and knives. I used one of my sterling spoons to complete the setting and it worked out just fine!

I’m always trying to get a little video to share on my Instagram!

The gold rimmed water glasses were purchased from Anthropologie several years ago. Anthropologie has the best tabletop items!

I’m so pleased with the way this table turned out and I hope you’ve found some inspiration! When you take the time to set the table…even simply, you elevate the everyday and memories are made. Life should be beautiful and it really takes very little effort! You don’t have to have flowers from the florist or sterling silver. Find flowers in your yard or even greenery or a bowl of fruit. Use cloth napkins and don’t save your good dishes for one day!

I wanted to include a closeup of this gorgeous tablecloth so you could see the pretty pattern! Just Darviny has so many tablecloth and napkin patterns to choose from so be sure to check out their website to see the whole selection!

I have a local florist, Custom Floral Creations, who makes the most beautiful flower arrangements. I simply take her a napkin or tablecloth and my vase and she works her magic!

Fruit and cheese always makes a pretty display. This mini pedestal cake stand came from TJ Maxx! Don’t be afraid to mix and match your fine china with less expensive finds.

This gorgeous vintage toll painted tray belonged to my friends mother-in-law along with the beautiful wine green champagne coups. I think of her each time I use the tray. Grilled olives and crusty bread are served together on the tray.

The summery linen look I’m wearing above is all from Amazon and I love it!

As far as I’m concerned, the more layered the table looks, the better! The little gold rimmed plates are from Vietri and at the time I set the table, I only had two, so I used those along with two of my Nantucket Basket pattern salad plates! I did order 4 more, because they’re so versatile and I wanted to have them for other tables!

I’m including a boutique below with a few treasures for your table! Enjoy!

I hope you’re enjoying these posts as much as I’m enjoying putting them together! It’s so much fun to get creative and think of new ways to set the table!

Thank you for reading today! Happy Sunday!

~XOXO Suzanne
